Window Frost specs

Setup notes and briefing numbers for Window Frost.

Glass film measurements that matter

Window Frost specs cover film type, coverage areas, cut design, and artwork setup for frosted glass vinyl. These details help the finished panels sit neatly on doors, partitions, and full window sections.

Measure the visible glass only, then note any rubber bead, aluminium frame, handle, lock, or manifest strip that reduces the usable area. Privacy bands on office fronts are usually set at eye level, while full-height frosting on meeting rooms needs door swing and gap clearance checked before cutting.

Include one straight-on photo and one angle photo for each pane so panel joins, mullions, and existing decals can be seen properly. Mark the inside or outside application side on the brief, because reversed artwork and reading direction become critical on entrance doors and reception glazing.

Film and cutline information

Window Frost specs should state whether the job is full cover, logo cut-out, stripe layout, or a repeated pattern across several panes. Supply finished sizes in millimetres and keep each cut path clean, closed, and separate from print layers so the plotter does not read decorative artwork as a cutting line.

Use vector artwork for logos and text, and convert all fonts to outlines before sending through the contact form. If the frost must align with neighbouring Graphics, a shopfront fascia, or existing wayfinding, add one elevation sketch with left and right edge references to avoid misaligned bands across the frontage.

Site conditions on SA glazing

Cape Town salt air, Durban humidity, and Highveld dust all affect glass preparation before frost vinyl is applied. Older shopfronts also need attention where silicone lines, paint overspray, or previous adhesive residue sit close to the intended panel edge.

North-facing glass takes more heat through the day, so large panels need allowance for careful positioning and squeegee control during fitment. Where loadshedding affects mall trading hours or workshop output, keep final pane counts and widths exact so recuts are not based on guesswork.

Artwork checks before cutting

State the required opacity effect, the finished band height, and whether logos knock out of the frost or sit as separate applied vinyl. Small counters inside letters, thin lines, and tight corners should be checked early because they weed differently from bold privacy blocks.

Save the spec sheet with the job card, pane numbering, and approved artwork version for the installer and buyer. That record helps when the same office park, salon partition, or retail door set needs matching panels added later.
