Spare Vinyl specs

Setup notes and briefing numbers for Spare Vinyl.

Matching old vinyl on site

Spare Vinyl specs set out the material, colour reference, cut lines, and artwork requirements for replacement vinyl. Keep these details aligned with the original job so the new pieces fit the same windows, panels, or counters.

Replacement vinyl must match the existing application, not just the artwork file. Note the glass, ACM panel, painted board, or counter face, then record whether the original was gloss, matte, translucent, or laminated. Durban salt air, Cape Town sun, and Highveld dust each affect adhesive choice and expected colour shift.

Include one straight-on photo and one close detail of the damaged section before any redraw starts. Measurements from frame edge to frame edge help us place cut lines where the previous piece sat, which matters on shop windows, till points, and narrow panel strips. A job number from the first run is useful when colours were mixed to a house standard.

Replacement vinyl pack details

List the details needed to remake only the affected vinyl pieces without changing the full branded set. Include material grade, finished size, bleed, contour cut, white ink requirement where relevant, and the direction of print if the design must align across adjacent panes. Reference marks are worth keeping when the same panel shape appears more than once on a shopfront.

Add the original scale, colour references, and any installation notes that affected fit on the first job.

Conditions that affect replacement

Older installs often shrink slightly, so a fresh piece copied from the artwork alone can miss the visible line of the original. Check whether the panel was trimmed on site, tucked behind a bead, or butted against silicone, as each changes the finished size. For multi-branch retail packs, record the branch name as well as the panel position to avoid swapping left and right window sections.

Surface prep matters when replacing a single panel in an otherwise aged set. Coastal stores may need a different film from inland sites, while sun-struck windows can show stronger contrast between new and weathered vinyl. Power interruptions also affect print scheduling, so file quality and approval detail should be right before production begins.

Artwork checks before reprint

Supply vector artwork where possible, and flag any fonts that were outlined on the first job. Reversed text, mirror cuts for inside-glass application, and white-underprint layers should be marked clearly on the spec.

Keep this record with the original job reference, installer notes, and panel dimensions. When a buyer asks for a replacement section months later, the stored spec helps identify what was printed, how it was cut, and where it was fitted.
